Union Rally Expected To Bring 5,000 To Annapolis

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller is bracing his Senate colleagues for a big rally in Annapolis early next week by unions that oppose state pension reforms.

Miller told senators on Thursday that they should plan on arriving early to session Monday night.

He's already describing it as "the night from hell."

The Senate president says up to 5,000 people may attend the rally by the Maryland State House in Annapolis, and a major road in front of the capital will be closed.

The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees is a lead organizer of the rally. It's scheduled on the same night the Senate is scheduled to vote on whether to allow in-state tuition for illegal immigrants.
