Lawyer: Police Want Immunity In Leopold Probe

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- An attorney for members of the security detail of Anne Arundel's county executive says he is negotiating an immunity deal that would let his clients provide information without the threat of prosecution in a probe of County Executive John R. Leopold.

John M. Singleton, who is acting on behalf of five members of Leopold's security detail, says he is negotiating with state prosecutors. Details of the probe have not been released, but the office of state prosecutor investigates state election law violations, ethics law violations and misconduct in office by public officials.

Leopold said earlier this week that members of his security detail helped him during his campaign last year when he was recovering from back surgery.
