As One Md. Telework Center Closes, Another Opens

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- A government-funded telework center in Hagerstown is closing this month and will be replaced by another telework center run by a commercial finance company.

The Hagerstown Telework Center has operated for the past 17 years using funds from the federal government. But last year, federal officials said they would no longer fund 14 telework centers in the Washington area because of budget cuts.

As a result, the telework center in the city-owned Elizabeth Hager Center will close April 15. The Perry Telework Center, operated by Hagerstown-based Perry Funding, will open at the site three days later. The new center will charge teleworkers $60 a day for office space, as opposed to $72 charged by the government-funded center.
