Frederick Rescue Mission Opens New Addition

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- The Frederick Rescue Mission is expanding its operations.

The organization is celebrating the grand opening Friday of a $1.8 million addition to its property on West South Street, near the downtown area.

Officials say the two-story structure includes a 130-seat dining hall, a computer room and classroom space that will also serve as a chapel. The addition expands the dining area by nearly 100 seats.

Officials say the addition will alleviate the need for people to wait outside for meals.

The added space also will enable the mission to offer homeless women a place to shower.
