7,000 Runners, Families Expected In Frederick

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- Nearly 7,000 runners and their families are expected to participate in the annual Frederick Running Festival this weekend.

Authorities are warning drivers to allow extra travel time through downtown Frederick on Saturday, when the race kicks off at 7:30 a.m. with a half marathon that begins and ends at the Frederick Fairgrounds on East Patrick Street.

After the half marathon, a 5K race will start at the fairgrounds and run from Monroe Avenue to Frederick Municipal Airport.

Dave Gell is the director of communications and social media for Corrigan Sports Enterprises, which has operated the festival for the past five years. He says registration is up 10 percent from last year, including runners from 40 states and four countries.
