WEIRTON, W.Va. (AP) — Union workers at former Severstal North America plants have approved a new contract with RG Steel LLC. United Steelworkers officials announced Thursday that about 57 percent of the union members who voted approved the agreement.

Details of the contract and the number of votes weren’t immediately available. Voting were hourly production, maintenance, office and clerical employees of plants in Sparrows Point, Md.; Warren, Ohio, and Follansbee and Wheeling.

RG, a subsidiary of the private equity firm Renco Group, completed the purchase in March.

What real choice did the union really have? This is yet another example of an offshore group buying a company on the balls of it’s a$$ with state aid & workers concessions only to squeeze the little juice left & they dump the product. Beth steel or what ever you want to call it these days has changed ownership five times in the last ten years. Kinda like the neighborhood gal growing up who was promiscuous. Everybody wanted a slice but nobody wanted a long term relationship.
