Hopkins Surgeon To Speak At Loyola Commencement

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Noted neurosurgeon Ben Carson will speak at Loyola University's commencement exercises this weekend.

The Johns Hopkins surgeon is scheduled to speak Saturday to more than 1,600 graduates at First Mariner Arena in Baltimore. The director of pediatric neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins Children's Center will also receive an honorary degree from the university.

University president Father Brian F. Linnane says Carson's career and personal background align closely with Loyola's Jesuit ideals and mission. Linnane says the university shares Carson's belief that education is the key to building a better world, and that someone's socioeconomic background should never be a barrier to educational opportunity.
