Police: Teen Driving Lesson Lands In Baltimore Lake

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Baltimore police say charges are pending against a woman who decided to give her 14-year-old niece a driving lesson and ended up in Lake Montebello.

Police spokesman Kevin Brown says the teen accidentally put her foot on the accelerator instead of the brake Tuesday and the van she was driving crashed through a fence and into the lake.

Passing joggers pulled the girl, her 25-year-old aunt and 53-year-old great-aunt from the water and police say they weren't seriously hurt.

The aunt could be cited for knowingly permitting a child under 15 to drive a motor vehicle on the highway and knowingly permitting a motor vehicle to be driven on a highway by an unlicensed person. She faces up to $430 in fines and five points on her license for each.
