New Publisher Named For Hagerstown Newspaper

HAGERSTOWN, Md.(AP) -- The owner of The Herald-Mail newspaper in Hagerstown is announcing the appointment of a new publisher.

Schurz Communications Inc. of South Bend, Ind., says Andy Bruns will take over at the Herald-Mail after Publisher John League retires at the end of July. The Herald-Mail reported the appointment Tuesday.

Senior Vice President Charles Pittman says Bruns will move to Hagerstown but he will also remain publisher of the Daily American in Somerset, Pa. He has held that position for about five years.

Pittman says that by making Bruns publisher of a newspaper group instead of a single newspaper, the company will save money that it can use to keep journalists and advertising salespeople working.
