Driver Exits Truck, Gets Hit Along Md. Highway

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- The Frederick County Sheriff's Office says a tractor-trailer driver is being treated at Shock Trauma in Baltimore after he was hit by a car on the shoulder of a state highway.

The agency says Gurnam Singh, 34, of Bellefonte, Pa., had just parked his truck on the shoulder and stepped outside when he was sideswiped by a car on Route 144 just east of Frederick.

The sheriff's office says charges are pending against the driver of the 2002 Mazda Protege that hit him.
