Omni Corp. Laying Off 97 At Emmitsburg Center

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) -- Omni Corp. is laying off nearly 100 workers who maintain the National Emergency Training Center in Emmitsburg.

The workers will lose their jobs because the company's contract with the Department of Homeland Security and Federal Emergency Management Agency wasn't renewed.

Shannon Davis, a spokeswoman for the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, tells The Frederick News-Post that the company notified the state of the 97 impending layoffs on Friday.

Emmitsburg Mayor Jim Hoover says he doesn't think the layoffs will have a big economic impact on the town, but he's concerned for the employees and their families. He says he hopes some of the workers will be able to find other positions at the training center or with whatever company takes over the contract.
