Family Asks For Help In Missing Woman Cold Case

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A 24-year-old Baltimore City woman disappeared and hasn't been heard from for more than a year.

Monique Griego reports the woman's family is trying to bring attention to this cold case.

It's been a year and a half since Cherice Ragins disappeared.  Tuesday is her 26th birthday and her family is holding a memorial service in her honor.  They're hoping it may bring new leads in this case.

Ragins vanished without a trace in February 2010.

"It's been devastating to go from day-to-day and to not be able to have closure," said her mother, Clariese Ragins.

Ragins says her daughter went to Catonsville to visit her boyfriend and was last seen alive near Route 40 and Rolling Road.  Police searched the area but found no trace of Cherice and the case is now cold.

"It's kind of at a standstill.  No new evidence or anything," Ragins said.

At one point, police thought Cherice may have taken off on her own.  Now they don't believe that to be true.

"We do not believe she left the Catonsville area and we believe she has met with foul play," said Det. Cathy Batton, Baltimore County Police.

Tuesday, her family is holding a memorial service at the New Life Mount Calvary Church in West Baltimore.

"Maybe somebody will be touched by the story who knows something or heard something or anything," Ragins said.

Ragins won't rest until she finds out what happened to her daughter, even if she knows it may be bad.

"She wouldn't just up and left.  She had everything to live for," she said.

If you have any information on the whereabouts of Cherice Ragins, you're asked to call Baltimore County Police.
