Campers Can Return To Assateague Following Irene
BERLIN, Md. (AP) -- Campers can return to Assateague State Park following a nearly week-long closure because of Hurricane Irene.
The park closed Friday as the storm moved in.
Now, the Maryland Park Service says campers with reservations can return Wednesday.
Irene did some damage to the park. Storm waves washed over the dunes, burying a parking lot. Boardwalk and restroom facilities were damaged, and some sites on the seashore's campground were flooded.
