Gas Tanker Stolen From Eastern Shore Recovered In Pa.

WORTON, Md. (WJZ)—Police locate a gasoline tanker stolen from Maryland's Eastern Shore. The theft put the FBI on alert in light of a possible threat linked to the 9/11 anniversary.

Mike Hellgren has details on where the truck has been found.

They found it in Pennsylvania, which is not that far from where it disappeared, though information surrounding the circumstances of how they found it, including whether or not they made an arrest, has not been released.

The massive tanker carrying 3,000 gallons of gasoline disappeared from a locked parking lot at Alger Oil Company at the Kent County business park just outside of Worton, Md.

With concerns over terrorism in the wake of the 9/11 10-year anniversary, the race was on to find it. And they did, Wednesday afternoon in the Philadelphia area.

Sheriff John Price IV confirmed the FBI was involved in the search.

"We estimate the value of the product that was on board on the truck, as well as the truck itself, close to $100,000 or more," Price said. "And we always worry that maybe someone may use the product for illegal purposes."

Amanda Bigelow works at a kennel across the street from where it vanished.

"The police have already been by here asking a couple of questions," she said. "I told them everything and I gave them my boss' number. So they're going to call them and see if they know anything about it."

Police wanted to know some specific things.

"If we've heard things and if we've been up late to see if we heard anything 'cause we have animals that we take out late," Bigelow said.

The Alger Oil Company says they do not have any comment on the theft. It's also unclear about whether there is any surveillance video that may have captured the person who took the truck.

Investigators say they don't know the motive behind the theft either.

"This entire incident has been well broadcasted up and down the East Coast," Price said.

Alger Oil delivers on the Eastern Shore and also in the southern parts of Pennsylvania.

There's no word of any arrests at this point.
