ROCKVILLE PIKE, Md. (AP) — Montgomery County police say an accident on Rockville Pike has killed a man who was riding a scooter.

Police say a vehicle struck the scooter on the roadway between Edmonston Drive and Route 28 about 1:30 a.m. Thursday. Officers say the driver of the vehicle fled the scene but was apprehended a short distance away.

The man on the scooter, 30-year-old Roberto Nassar of Gaithersburg, was taken to a hospital and later died.

The driver of the vehicle, 22-year-old Michael Charles Dalton Jr. of College Park, has been charged with failure to immediately stop vehicle at scene of accident involving death and other offenses. He’s being held on $1 million bond.
