New Appeal For Md. Man Held In Aruba Tourist Case
ORANJESTAD, Aruba (AP) -- A lawyer for a U.S. man detained in Aruba in the presumed death of his travel companion has filed an appeal for his release.
Aruban attorney Michael Lopez says he asked a court to immediately release Gary Giordano. Lopez said in a statement Tuesday he asked for the court to at least free his client pending any trial.
Giordano is being held on suspicion of involvement in the presumed death of Robyn Gardner, 35, of Frederick, Md. Her body has not been found. Giordano denies wrongdoing and says Gardner was swept out to sea while snorkeling. A judge last month rejected a previous appeal of his detention order. Prosecutors plan to seek to extend the order when it expires later this month.
