BLOG: Mild Again

On the weather map we have pretty strong high pressure centered down in the Southeast and a weak feature moving into southern Quebec that is producing some clouds and very little precipitation. Farther to the west, we have low pressure that will be moving into the northern plains and a cold front that trails southwestward into Nevada. We also have an upper-level low dropping southward near the coast of Southern California.

The high pressure in the Southeast today will bring us a milder southwesterly breeze today as the feature moving into Quebec moves northeastward. We can have some patchy mid and high clouds today, especially this morning, in the warm advection pattern, but in general mostly sunny and temperatures running up some 10 degrees higher than yesterday even though we are off to a chilly start.

The high pressure now in the Southeast will move eastward the next couple of days. Meanwhile, the low pressure area moving into the northern Plains today will move up to near Hudson Bay tomorrow evening and will have a weakening cold front stretching southward down into the Great Lakes. So again tomorrow between the high moving off to the east and the front approaching from the west we have a dry, milder southwest flow, again with more sunshine than clouds.

This front will stall and more or less washout to our north and west tomorrow night and Monday with a mild southwest flow for us. At the same time, the tail end of this front in the middle of the nation will be moistening and the upper level low coming down the coast of Southern California today will eject out into the central and southern Plains Monday. There will be a zone of warm advection rain or showers where the first weakening front meets some of the moisture coming in advance of the developing central and southern Plains storm system, but we think that will pass by to our north and west Monday morning and we are in for another dry, mild day Monday.
