BALTIMORE (AP) — Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake says she will direct her automatic pay raise this year to the city’s Youth Works summer jobs program.

The mayor’s office announced Monday that she will donate her 2.5 percent cost-of-living salary increase to the program that places teens in summer jobs. She declined last year’s pay raise as well.

Rawlings-Blake earned about $155,490 in the last fiscal year. Her pay raise is about $3,900. The salary increase after taxes will be deducted from her salary in the payroll process.

The mayor says she’s making the donation because of the city’s dire financial situation as it faces another year of budget deficits. Rawlings-Blake also has reduced the budget for her office by more than 19 percent over the past two years.

Another great decision in the great city of Baltimore! They continue to furlough police and wonder why they are disgruntled but let’s give the Mayor and Officials more money for sitting on there a$$. You have people (yes police are real people too) that risk potential harm everyday and don’t get paid enough as it is and they want to take more money. While you have a Mayor that wants to continue to tax everything in sight and take from people that actually maintain the city at what it is. The Mayor is only giving her raise up because she knows right now she is furloughing throughout the whole city and she will get a lot of slack for taking a raise while everyone else is getting pay cuts. If you want to boost morale in the city among ALL employees then stop taking and taking and taking. This city will always be in debt and will continue for years to come because you have people appointed to positions just because they know there ABC’s. I wouldn’t let the majority of the Higher Up’s in the city run a car wash or a day care alone run the entire city.
