Md. Trooper Shoots Man While Serving Warrant

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) -- Maryland state police say a trooper shot a man wanted on drug dealing charges while trying to serve a warrant at the man's Upper Marlboro home.

Michael King, 31, is under police guard at a hospital after being shot in the head and torso Wednesday morning. Police say he is expected to survive.

Police say Trooper First Class Wesley Jefferson opened fire after King ran toward officers while holding a knife with a 4-inch blade.

Jefferson is part of a federal warrant task force. Eight task force members went to King's mobile home around 8:30 a.m. and knocked on the door repeatedly. After getting no answer, they entered through a window. That's when police say King emerged from around a corner and ran at the officers while holding the knife.
