Prince George's Executive: Slots Could Help Fund New Projects

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Prince George's County Executive Rushern Baker III says he is open to adding slot-machine gambling in the county as a way to help generate funding for new projects.

Baker told The Washington Post on Monday in Annapolis that he plans to ask state lawmakers for a large amount of funding, and said he expects slots will be part of discussions as a way to pay for the county's needs.

Baker says funding for a new regional medical center for the county will be among the requests he makes when the legislative session starts next month.

Penn National Gaming Inc. has been pushing a plan for slots at the Rosecroft Raceway horse racing track in Prince George's County, but there has been opposition.
