Bomb Scare At City Hall Was A False Alarm

BALTIMORE (WJZ/AP)— A suspicious package at City Hall was reported early Monday morning. After shutting the area down briefly, Baltimore City police determined it was a false alarm.

The call came between 6 and 7 a.m. When officers arrived they determined that the suspicious package was actually a food container wrapped in a t-shirt. Written on that t-shirt was the word "Bomb."

Some streets in the area were shut down, but police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said around 9 a.m. that they would soon reopen.

Officials determined that the package was not dangerous and did not pose a threat to City Hall.

Police are reviewing CitiWatch cameras to determine the person responsible for the package.

Government offices were closed to observe the Christmas holiday.

Guglielmi says the department's intelligence section is taking over the investigation.
