Crews Investigate Suspicious Fire In West Baltimore

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Arson investigators are on the scene of a suspicious house fire that broke out Wednesday morning in West Baltimore.

Crews were called to the 800-block of West Lombard Street just after 7 a.m.

Firefighters say heavy smoke was coming from the first floor of the building when they arrived.

But as soon as they got inside, they knew something was wrong.

"The firefighters went inside and found a fire in the first floor front which they extinguished.  When they were searching for occupants, they found a second fire and then a third fire in separate rooms. At that point, we knew it was suspicious," said Chief Frank Hazzard, Baltimore City Fire Department.

No one was home at the time.

The investigation is ongoing.
