Couple In Their 70s Hit By Car On Sidewalk

KENSINGTON, Md. (AP) -- Montgomery County Police say a couple in their 70s was hit by a car that drove onto a sidewalk in Kensington.

It happened about 10:05 a.m. Sunday on Summit Avenue. Police say a car driven by Mary Ann Harrington, 68, of Germantown was traveling north when it left the road and hit two people on the sidewalk.

The pedestrians, John Richard Whalen, 77, and his wife, Dorothy Whalen, 74, both of Kensington, were taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Harrington was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The accident is under investigation.
