Hundreds Plan To Take Plunge In Williamsport, Md.

WILLIAMSPORT, Md. (AP) -- Cold water is no deterrent to several hundred people preparing to plunge into the Potomac River for charity.

The Humane Society of Washington County says it expects more than 300 people to participate in Sunday's Polar Bear Plunge in Williamsport.

A spokeswoman says last year's event raised more than $8,000 for the organization. The goal this year is $15,000.

The pain of the plunge may be offset by relatively mild air temperatures. The National Weather Service is forecasting a high of 52 degrees.
