Labor Leaders Rally For Jobs

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown says Gov. Martin O'Malley's budget will include substantial increases in transportation projects.

Brown spoke Monday night in Annapolis to members of labor unions. Members chanted at a rally: "We need jobs."

Brown, a Democrat, says O'Malley's budget, which will be made public on Wednesday, will include proposals for roads, rail, the airport, the port and bridges to put people back to work.

Brown declined in an interview to get specific about revenue increases. He says he doesn't want to speak before O'Malley about details.

O'Malley has mentioned a gas tax increase and a hike in the state's "flush tax" for sewage upgrades as being under consideration. Accelerating borrowing in the state's capital budget also has been mentioned as a way to pay for the projects.
