Towson Ends Losing Streak

TOWSON, Md. (AP) -- Marcus Damas scored 18 points and Towson ended its NCAA record 41-game losing streak with a 66-61 victory over North Carolina Wilmington on Saturday.

Robert Nwankwo had a double-double with 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Tigers (1-22, 1-10 Colonial Athletic Association). Nwankwo helped Towson win the battle of the boards with a 41-29 edge.

The Tigers trailed 38-34 in the second half before Nwankwo scored on a layup and Damas added five straight points to put the Tigers back on top, 41-38.

UNC Wilmington (8-13, 4-7) battled back to tie the game at 52-all. But Damas made another jumper, sparking an 8-1 run to give the Tigers a 60-53 lead with 1:25 left to play.

The victory was the first career win at Towson for coach Pat Skerry. It was the Tigers' first win since a win at LaSalle on Dec. 29, 2010.
