Hofstra Defeats Towson 74-49

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) -- Mike Moore scored 28 points as Hofstra rolled past Towson 74-49 Wednesday night to snap a three-game losing streak.

Nathaniel Lester added 19 points for the Pride (8-16, 2-10 Colonial Athletic Association) to become the 30th player in Hofstra history to reach 1,000 career points. He now has 1,009.

The Pride, who came in having lost nine of their previous 10 games, scored 35 points off 27 Tigers turnovers.

Towson (1-23, 1-11), which defeated UNC Wilmington 66-61 Saturday to snap its NCAA-record 41-game losing streak, stayed close for 10 minutes. Then Hofstra, leading 11-9, went on a 14-2 run to pull away, with Moore scoring eight points.

The Pride led 33-18 at halftime. After Erique Gumbs hit two jumpers to get Towson within 10 at 35-25, Hofstra launched a 13-0 run and never let the Tigers get closer than 18 from that point.

Gumbs scored 12 to lead Towson.
