2 Md. Men Face Bank Fraud Charges In W.Va.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. (AP) -- Two Maryland men are charged in West Virginia with fraudulently obtaining more than $48,000 from a bank and using some of the money to gamble at a casino.

Girard Curry, 28, of Coppa, Md., and Derran Hankins, 29, of Randallstown, Md., are scheduled to be arraigned Feb. 22 in federal court in Martinsburg on bank fraud and identity theft charges.

They're accused of having an unknown third person use a false ID to obtain a $40,000 bank check and $8,500 in cash from a bank account last August.

The indictment says they used the check at Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races to obtain $40,000 worth of chips. They gambled about an hour, and then cashed in the remaining chips and left.
