Elderly Woman Dies After Crashing Car Into Tree

JOPPATOWNE, Md. (WJZ)— Officials say an elderly woman ran through a stop sign and caused a fatal collision in Joppatowne.

Last Thursday afternoon, authorities say Catherine Josephine Miller, 83, was driving south on Joppa Road when she ran through a stop sign across Trimble Road and onto Lohr's Lane. Her Nissan Sentra first hit a garbage can and then a tree.

The impact from hitting the tree caused the vehicle to roll over, and Miller was ejected from the vehicle. She was not wearing a seat belt.

Miller sustained serious head injuries and was flown to the University of Maryland R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in serious condition.

She died Sunday as a result of her injuries.
