BLOG: Windy Day

Can you say WIND?!?!?

A strong pressure difference between an intensifying low pressure system over New Brunswick early Saturday morning and Canadian high pressure over the Plains will support sustained winds from the west-northwest at 20 to 35 mph throughout the region. Many places will have peak gusts to near 50 mph, with a few exposed locations perhaps ticking 55 mph. Winds will be strong enough to tear off weak limbs and perhaps uproot a tree or two. Isolated power outages are possible. Winds will remain brisk through the evening, but they will diminish considerably after midnight as the storm system departs.

Saturday … Other than wind, it will be mostly sunny. For those traveling to the western Maryland Panhandle, clouds and snow showers will prevail, with a couple of inches expected in the higher elevations. The strong winds descending the higher terrain on route to the Chesapeake Bay, however, will put the kibosh on the snow showers.

Sunday … shaping up to be a fine late-winter's day with abundant sunshine with temperatures a bit below normal (highs mid 40s). Clear skies and light winds will promote a cool night Sunday night.
