Temporary Courthouse Move In Howard County Halted

COLUMBIA, Md. (AP) -- A judge has rejected a plan to relocate court proceedings in Howard County because security issues couldn't be worked out at the temporary location.

The Baltimore Sun reports that Howard County Circuit Court Administrative Judge Lenore R. Gelfman decided on Monday that arrangements for additional security enhancements at the Asecend One building in Columbia could not be worked out.

Gelfman declined to say what the exact problems were.

County spokesman Kevin Enright says about $1.3 million has been spent preparing the building, with about $275,000 going toward security and equipment that will return to the courthouse.

The plan was being put in place so the courthouse could undergo a nearly $8.6 million renovation.
