Feds Reach Out To Dealers In Stolen Documents Case

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Federal investigators are hoping collectors and dealers can help them find more historic documents stolen by a disgraced presidential memorabilia collector and author.

Barry Landau pleaded guilty in February to charges of conspiracy and theft in U.S. District Court in Maryland. Thousands of
documents seized from his Manhattan apartment have now been traced back to archives throughout the United States.

But National Archives Inspector General Paul Brachfeld said Wednesday that investigators hope dealers who are now questioning items they bought from Landau will help them recover even more stolen documents and gather information ahead of what they think will be a harsh sentencing. He says dealers who come forward can get amnesty and will have an easier time seeking restitution.
