Bulgarian Citizen Sentenced In ATM Skimming Plot

BALTIMORE (AP) -- A Bulgarian citizen has been sentenced to more than six years in prison for stealing more than $400,000 using small cameras and ATM skimming devices.

Ivo Damyanov, who lived in Howard County, was sentenced Friday. He had pleaded guilty in September to conspiracy to commit access device fraud, access device fraud and aggravated identity theft. He was also ordered to pay restitution.

According to court documents, Damyanov, 32, was part of a plot that put ATM skimmers and miniature cameras on bank ATMs throughout the state. The devices would capture PIN numbers and the information would be emailed to co-conspirators in Bulgaria.

Counterfeit credit and debit cards would be made and used to withdraw money from victims' accounts.
