Foose Chosen As Howard Co. Schools Superintendent; Dance Chosen As Baltimore Co. Superintendent

ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (AP) -- The Howard County school board has chosen Renee Foose as its next superintendent, making her the first woman to lead the 50,000-student school district.

The Baltimore Sun reports that the board chose Foose, the deputy superintendent of Baltimore County Public Schools, over S. Dallas Dance, chief middle schools officer for the Houston Independent School District, early Tuesday.

Foose will replace Sydney Cousin, who announced last year that he would be retiring on July 1.

Meanwhile, Dance has been chosen as the next superintendent in Baltimore County. The county school board is expected to take a formal vote in the next week, but board president Lawrence Schmidt said Tuesday morning that Dance has accepted the offer.
