Groundbreaking Set For New SSA Building In Md.

URBANA, Md. (AP) -- Social Security Commissioner Michael Astrue is joining local elected officials at a groundbreaking for the agency's new data center in Urbana.

The event is set for Monday afternoon in an office park along Interstate 270 about 30 miles north of the nation's capital.

U.S. Rep. Roscoe Bartlett is also scheduled to attend.

The federal government awarded a nearly $192 million contract in January to Hensel Phelps Construction Co. of Chantilly, Va., to design and build the 300,000-square-foot center. Completion is expected in 2015.

It's expected to employ about 250 people.
