Inmate Found Hanging At Detention Center Dies

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- The Washington County sheriff says a Hancock woman found hanging at the county detention center has been declared dead.

Sheriff Douglas W. Mullendore said Sunday that Kristy Dawn Jenkins, 25, was declared dead Friday. She was found hanging from a sheet on a bathroom partition on Wednesday. Jenkins was later taken Meritus Medical Center.

Mullendore told The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown that procedures at the detention center are being reviewed following Jenkins' death.

There have been two other hangings at the detention center in the past two years. The sheriff said a 22-year-old man killed himself last year, and a woman survived in 2010.
