Anne Arundel Police Officer Who Fatally Shot Man Identified

GAMBRILLS, Md. (WJZ) --  Officials have identified the Anne Arundel County police officer who fatally shot a man Friday evening at a home in Gambrills.

Police say four-year veteran Timothy Peek was called to the 800-block of Frost Valley Lane for reports of a domestic dispute. They say Peek heard a woman screaming for help as he approached the house.

A preliminary investigation reveals a violent struggle occurred between the officer and Gary Petrie, 56, of Gambrills.

Police say during the physical altercation, Petrie attempted to use a blunt force object. In self defense, Peek used his departmental issued handgun to shoot Petrie in his upper body.

Petrie later died at the R. Adams Crowley Shock Trauma Center. Police say the woman was treated for non-life threatening injuries at Baltimore Washington Medical Center .

The incident remains under investigation.
