Prosecutor: Stabbing Attack Wasn't Self-Defense

ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (AP) -- Prosecutors in Howard County say a fight between two friends that led to one of them being stabbed to death in a Columbia parking lot was murder.

Opening statements began Monday in the trial of Anthony Patrick Parker, who is charged with killing Phillip Edward Wise, 46. The Baltimore Sun reports that Parker was arrested on Sept. 14, 2011, a day after Wise was found bleeding in a parking lot of a housing complex.

Parker, 53, is facing one count of second-degree murder and one-count of first-degree assault. Attorneys for Parker say their client acted in self-defense.

Prosecutors say Wise, who was holding a hammer during the fight, was stabbed five times by Parker.
