Phillips CEO Lists Riverfront Home For $32M

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ) -- It could be the biggest real estate deal in the Mid-Atlantic in decades. A local CEO lists his Severn River-front home for $32 million.

Kai Jackson shows us the incredible home and why agents claim it's worth the staggering price.

It's a majestic estate nestled in the woods of Annapolis. The owner built a seafood empire in Maryland and is selling it for what could be a record amount.

"The house is listed for $32 million," said David DeSantis, TTR Sotheby's International.

Steve and Maxine Phillips are selling their 23-acre home on the beautiful Severn River near the Naval Academy. The sprawling compound is called the Friary on the Severn because it used to be a monastery. The Phillips'--who own Phillips Seafood--bought it in 2002. They renovated the home, lived in it and are now selling it. Why?

"Once the kids are gone and out of the house, sometimes you find yourself thinking, `Gee, this is more house than we really wanna take care of,'" DeSantis said.

It has 23,000 square feet of space, seven bedrooms, eight bathrooms, two swimming pools, a spa and a nine car garage.

"Sometimes a change is good. It's a change good for us; it's a change good for people around us," said Steve Phillips.

It's a whopping price for a mega-house and broker David DeSantis says it could be a record sale. But at $32 million, who can afford it?

"There are certainly people in other cities and other countries who could see the appeal of owning a property in this town," DeSantis said.

TTR Sotheby's, which is listing the mansion, says there have already been inquiries since the house was listed last week.
