Washington Co. Boosts Funding For Antietam Concert

HAGERSTOWN, Md. (AP) -- Washington County is digging deeper to help sponsor an annual outdoor concert at the nearby Antietam National Battlefield.

The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown newspaper reports that the County Commissioners voted Tuesday to grant the
Maryland Symphony Orchestra nearly $30,000 for the Salute to Independence concert July 7.

That's about a 50 percent increase over the $20,000 the county provided the last three years.

Commissioner William McKinley says the concert is one of the most patriotic and economically beneficial events held in the county.

The free concert draws about 35,000 people to the battlefield near Sharpsburg.
