Councilman Withdraws Metro Centre Legislation

TOWSON, Md. (AP) -- A Baltimore County councilman has withdrawn a bill that would have given a number of exemptions on development regulations to the Metro Centre at Owings Mills.

The Baltimore Sun reports that Democratic Councilman Kenneth Oliver pulled back the legislation on Thursday because he didn't have enough vote to pass it. Critics of the plan say the bill amounts to a "blank check" for the developer of the project. Oliver plans to reintroduce the bill next month after talking with colleagues.

Metro Centre is currently under construction near Interstate 795 and Painters Mill Road. In addition to housing, office and retail space, it is expected to feature a new public library and a branch of the Community College of Baltimore County.
