Heavy Construction Work On I-495 In Northern Va. This Week

McLEAN, Va. (AP) -- With the summer construction season in full swing, drivers on the Capital Beltway and Interstate 95 in northern Virginia can expect some heavy delays this week on overnight travel.

Beginning Monday night and running all week, crews will shut down three of four lanes on the Beltway's outer loop from
Georgetown Pike to the Oak Street overpass. After midnight, motorists could experience full closures for up to 30 minutes.

Lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. each morning.

The closures are for paving and sign installation for the I-495 Express Lanes project, which is expected to conclude this year.

Meanwhile, survey work is beginning on another toll lane project, the I-95 Express lanes project. As a result, the existing HOV lanes there will be closed overnights this week.
