Gaithersburg City Manager Jones Resigns

GAITHERSBURG, Md. (AP) -- The city manager of Gaithersburg is resigning after nearly four years on the job.

City officials said Thursday that Angel Jones has resigned and her last day will be Friday.

Mayor Sidney A. Katz says Jones is resigning to pursue other career opportunities, but didn't provide specifics.

Jones served the Montgomery County city as it faced hard economic times. During her tenure, city officials approved the first property tax increase in 45 years, a move that was taken to maintain the city's status as a debt-free municipality.

Jones said in a statement that she is leaving the city in a strong financial position.

City officials say Deputy City Manager Tony Tomasello will serve as acting city manager until a new city manager is chosen.
