Ousted Md. Councilman Set To Leave Prison

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- Former Anne Arundel County Council member Daryl D. Jones, who lost his seat after being convicted of failing to file a tax return, is due to be released from a South Carolina federal prison.

Jones, a Democrat, was removed from office after the council said once he reported to prison, he would no longer live in his district.

The Baltimore Sun reports that Jones, set to be freed on Thursday after serving a five-month term, has appealed a court ruling in the council's favor.

Peter Smith was named to fill Jones' seat.
