Storm Damage Closes Western Md. Rescue Mission
CUMBERLAND, Md. (AP) -- The manager of a Cumberland rescue mission says it will be closed for at least three months after strong winds ripped the roof off the building.
The Rev. Dan Taylor told the Cumberland Times-News on Monday that seven women and seven children were staying at the Union Rescue Mission when it was damaged Friday by a line of thunderstorms with winds gusting up to 90 mph.
He says the displaced residents spent the weekend at the local Holiday Inn, courtesy of the American Red Cross. They moved Tuesday to a shelter run by the Emmanuel Episcopal Church.
