Anne Arundel County Considers Selling Its Water

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- The Anne Arundel County Council is considering bottling and selling the county's award-winning water.

The Baltimore Sun reports Councilman John Grasso made the proposal. Grasso says he has discussed the plan with a bottler but has not yet determined the profit potential. Grasso has also suggested giving the water away at county events, and says retailers who carry the water would be showing their community support.

The county's Department Public Works gets water from wells that range from 120 to 1,150 feet deep. The water has won awards in tasting competitions for years.

Jim DiPietro, deputy director of the department, says the idea of bottling the county's water was suggested about 12 years ago but was frowned on by county lawyers.
