Potomac Edison Says 72,700 Lost Power In Storm

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Potomac Edison says 72,700 of its 251,000 customers lost power during the summer storms that knocked out power to more than a million in Maryland.

Western Maryland's largest electric utility says the average outage was 29.6 hours. The utility says it was able to hire outside contractors to help with restoration, but only seven of the electricians it hired were obtained locally. The company says it will work to develop a larger list of local contractors.

The report was filed with the Maryland Public Service Commission. PSC spokeswoman Regina Davis said Monday that utilities have 21 days from full restoration to file outage reports.

Potomac Edison says it received the first outage was reported about 7 p.m., June 29 and service was fully restored July 6 about 4:20 p.m.
