Evitts Scales Back Rocky Gap Slots Proposal

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- A proposed western Maryland casino is being scaled back due to trouble in finding financing.

Tim Cope, president of Evitts Resort LLC, told a state slot machine commission on Tuesday it could not find financing for the $65 million project. The plan included adding a new facility at the Rocky Gap Lodge and Golf Resort.

Cope says Evitts now wants to put 500 slot machines inside meeting space in the current facility, instead of 850 machines as originally planned.

The state panel will need to approve the revised plan. About 20,000 square feet of meeting space would need to be found elsewhere in the facility within three years.

Cope says Evitts is ready to write a check for the revised plan, which would cost between $25 and $30 million.
