Yet another reason why the media sucks
...And yes I know I am now a member but this needs to be said. Why is it that sports media folks seem to pick on those least deserving the negative attention? First Tim Tebow becomes the target of pretty visceral criticism while he continues to take the high ground despite what's said about him.
Lolo Jones broke down and cried after The New York Times basically called her a pretty girl with no real athletic ability. What do these two athletes have in common? Both claim to be virgins and seem to be truly nice people. Both are physically attractive. Both although not dominant in their fields are more talented than anyone you have probably ever met. So why the vitriol?
What have they done to deserve to be criticized so harshly ? Nothing!
It seems to me that the kids who got beat up in school and couldn't get a date are still hating on the attractive, popular, athletic kids. You think I'm kidding? Take a look at most of your sports journalists, and I'm not talking about the ex jocks and pretty TV people. Find the ones who write this stuff and more often than not you'll see the nerdy, unpopular kid you once knew all grown up...sort of, but now in a position of power. Mark Twain once admonished to never pick a fight with someone who buys ink by the barrel. Truer words have never been spoken
I just wish those who enjoy the power of the fourth estate would use it more carefully and not let their schoolyard memories impact their journalistic integrity.
