Hospital Reaffirms Plans To Move

TAKOMA PARK, Md. (AP) -- A Maryland hospital still plans to move from Takoma Park to Silver Spring despite a recommendation from a state regulator that the project be rejected.

The Washington Post reports that a spokeswoman for the Washington Adventist Hospital said Tuesday it would withdraw its current application to the Maryland Health Commission seeking a certificate of need and would start a new application. A state regulator has said she opposes the request because the hospital has failed to show its proposed project is financially feasible.

The hospital wants to move the 281-bed hospital to the White Oak area of Silver Spring, where it hopes to build a $389 million hospital.

The full commission is scheduled to consider the recommendation at an Oct. 18 meeting.
